From Sticker to Story: How Little Things Build Connection

“Would you like a sticker for your water bottle?”

Well, duh. Who turns down a free sticker? My wife was happy to accept.

“I’m going to let you put it on yourself,” he said, queueing her to peel back the paper and apply.

It was that easy. Now my wife will be carrying her water bottle with Afterglow Brewing’s name and logo on it everywhere that she goes.

And how much did it cost the brewery to gain her buy-in as a brand ambassador? Maybe a buck.

She couldn’t say no. Who doesn’t want a free sticker?

Small gestures can make a big impact. For just a dollar, Afterglow Brewing turned my wife into a walking billboard and brand ambassador.

Your staff has hundreds of tiny moments with guests every day. When done with intention, these small actions build loyalty and drive repeat business.

Here are 5 easy to implement ideas that can build deeper connections with your fans:

  1. Free stickers – This is an obvious start to the list. Can you replicate Afterglow’s sticker move?

  2. Thank-you cards for regulars – How about a small, handwritten note to give to a taproom guest? My wife and I recently celebrated a wedding anniversary, and when we arrived at the table, a sweet card was waiting for us. Go old school with a personal touch that shows guests how much you appreciate them.

  3. Remember a name or favorite beer - Few things make guests feel valued like being remembered. When a staff member recalls someone’s name or their go-to pint, it creates a personal connection that keeps them coming back. As a guest, when someone calls me by name, I’m always surprised and equally impressed.

  4. Special access or a look behind the scenes - Invite a guest to check out your brewhouse or have a brewer drop by their table to chat about the beer they’re drinking. That extra minute of access feels special and creates a story they’ll want to share. Bonus points if you can cleverly offer a taste of a beer hasn’t been released yet.

  5. Take their picture - Offer to take a picture of a group enjoying their time, or set up a fun, branded backdrop for guests to snap photos. Those photos become memories, and free marketing when they’re shared online. Shout out to Rising Tide Brewing for being my Facebook background since June 2024!

So, now what? Will any of these little touches work in your taproom? If not, what will you do today to create more memorable guest experiences? Email us and share what’s working at your brewery.
